Walking from the Varrock west bank takes approximately 5 minutes and 30 seconds to arrive at the Lava Maze. Once the player has arrived at the steel platebody spawn. They may camp the spawn as long as they would like. If the player chooses to bank every hour, the Varrock Teleport is the fastest method to bank, and will teleport you directly east of the Varrock west bank. Once banking is completed, run north-west through the wilderness ditch on the east side of the River Lum and repeat the process.

Some items and coins spawn throughout the maze. A gold necklace and steel platebody spawn at the centre near the muddy chest. A muddy key is required to open the chest, which contains a fair amount of treasure; looting the chest will earn the player a mithril bar, a mithril dagger, 2 law runes, 2 death runes, 10 chaos runes, an uncut ruby and an anchovy pizza. The steel platebody is a platebody made out of steel. It requires 5 Defence to wield, and can be made using 5 steel bars at level 48 Smithing, granting 187.5 Smithing experience.
